Welcome to the Twilight Zone
It's taken us a couple of days to digest it, but on reflection we have to say it: Saturday's Argos-Riders tilt might just have been our favourite sporting event so far this year.
Honestly, if there's one game the CFL needs to broadcast repeatedly into the U.S., it was this one. To recap, Ricky Williams suffers a clean break of his arm - then coolly walks off the field making such a minor deal of it that commentators assume he suffered a burner. Spergon Wynn, having played a first half that finally proved his game isn't limited to the local club scene, gets his head knocked off by Scott Schultz - then spends halftime being loaded onto a stretcher as cheerleaders dance around him. Eric Crouch turns up and somehow completes a massive bomb to Isaac Bruce's cousin. And in between, Doug Flutie's brother - who's doing colour commentary - announces that Doug was close to rejoining the Argos, but only until Marcus Allen's 42-year-old brother is back from his injury.
We normally prefer not to put stuff in such un-Canadian terms, but that was just too much fun. And we didn't even mention the rumour (which we're 99% sure is false) that Ricky wandered out of the stadium after his injury and hopped into a local's car to go to the hospital - which means we've foregone all the Deliverance jokes that Troy Westwood would've made under the circumstances.
