We've been served, Arland Bruce style

We'll admit it: We didn't really think Arland Bruce III would respond to Rusty's chili cookoff challenge. After all, he's been kind of busy carrying the Argos' offence on his back. But sometime recently - possibly while he was getting bored running circles around the Ticats on Saturday - he apparently gave it some thought.

Arland, it seems, wants to aim a little higher than chili. Or, as he put it in an e-mail we got this week:

"I prepare food for the season. Chili is for like Oct.-Jan., when it is cold out. I don't deal with amateurs. If you were a real chef, you would know what season you have to cook to. When you step up your game to lasagna, let me know. Either regular or vegetarian, although I prefer non-vegetarian. Just let me know."

Oh, snap. It is so on. So watch for the Bruce/Boatmenblog lasagna showdown, coming soon.

No, it won't be vegetarian. And yes, we're kind of relieved he didn't challenge us to some sort of pho cookoff, considering he and his wife run a Vietnamese restaurant in the off-season.

Arland's bitten off more than he can chew, as it were. Reliable sources have it that Cowbell Jenny, in particular, makes a wicked lasagna. Let the games begin!

Wow, this is awesome. Unlike Arland, I enjoy dealing with amateurs. Anyway, how is lasanga so different from chili, and is lasanga really a summer food? I suppose I just solidified my amateur status. Either way, I would love to be a judge for this showdown...

summer food is burgers, hot dogs, and coors light with a shot of tequila.

Look for details on an opportunity to be a guest judge for this, coming soon.

It should be noted that I will defend chili as a summer food to the death. There's a reason it's popular in the southwest.

There must be some funny and clever way to incorporate Garfield into this discussion on Lasagna? Sadly I can't think of one... apologies.

Rusty has a point. Spicy foods are supposed to be served where/when it's hot - hence the mouth-burning nature of Caribbean food. I think the idea is that it gets you to sweat, which is supposed to actually be good when it's hot. Or something.

I'm so glad we're addressing the big football issues here.

O.K. I'm officially throwing down the gauntlet... Arland: You, Me and the heat of the kitchen... Bring your best recipe and get ready to feel the culinary wrath of Cowbell Jenny.

(Dear lord what have A-Rad and Rusty gotten us into?)

I'm going to support spicy food for summer. During my travels to India, they suggested drinking warm Chai as a way to cool down in the hot weather. Apparently hot drinks (thus carried over to hot food) is supposed to actually cool you down in hot weather.
