Shivers our timbers

This might be the only time in our lives we ever say this, but not being from Saskatchewan, we feel a little cheated. Much as we caught bits and pieces of the Roy Shivers era, we missed the full experience. And this video suggests that we missed something pretty spectacular.

The clothes...the toothpick...the shot at Eric Tillman...if that wasn't the baddest man in Regina, we don't want to see who was. Just a few lingering questions, though:

  • At what point will Shivers be giving the mother of all Brian Williams interviews? And is there any chance of just giving him his own show?
  • From the point of the interview where he mentioned looking forward to spending time with his family, wasn't it a bit hard to stop wondering what a visit to Grandpa's house is like if Grandpa is Roy Shivers?
  • If they ever make a movie about the rest of the Roughriders' season (can anyone say "boxoffice smash"?), will Danny Barrett be played by Sean Penn or Michael Clarke Duncan?
  • We don't want to start getting all political here, this being the last proper weekend of summer and all. But is anyone else slightly relieved we're no longer going to have fans and commentators saying "Shivers-Barrett" in one breath, as though they were a single entity? Just asking.
  • Where can we get that shirt?

It's finally safe to let your daughters out - Eric Tillman is finished sowing his wild oats

tillman.jpgIt already seems almost a foregone conclusion that Eric Tillman will be heading to Regina to replace Roy Shivers (and based on his weird love affair with Kent Austin, we strongly suspect that the Argos' former O.C. will soon follow). But in case you're wondering why he didn't sign on as the Roughriders GM back in 1999, this story from the Regina Leader-Post would appear to have the answer: He was too busy being "a 40-year-old bachelor."

Now, we absolutely love the idea of Eric Tillman on the prowl, ideally with Brian Williams as his wing-man. ("It's 1:45 a.m. - 3:15 in Newfoundland - and E.T. is about to take it home!") But we love even more that he was convinced that Regina would cramp his style - and this from a guy who lives in Ottawa, for crying out loud.

This would explain why he wants to go to Riderville now, though. No doubt, his wife knows that anywhere else, it would only be a matter of time before the wild party that is Eric Tillman returned to his old ways.
