Someone should tell Eugene you only need to win 2 playoff games in the CFL

All right, let's get this straight. A couple of months ago, with fans begging him to save the Renegades, Eugene Melnyk proclaimed himself too busy trying to bring the Stanley Cup to Ottawa. Now, he's somehow managed to find the time to buy up pretty much the entire Ontario Hockey League.

Two observations. One, Eugene Melnyk is a jerk. Two, barring somehow convincing Mark Cuban to take the plunge into CFL ownership (which would be the single greatest partnership in the history of professional sports), the future of Canadian football in the nation's capital now comes down to one man. One anthem-singing, juice-peddling, beer-brewing, Ben Johnson-exploiting giant of a man. A man who somehow reminds us of Tony Danza, minus the tap-dancing. Ottawans, meet your saviour. But be warned...he's here for a good time, not a long time.

The last successful Ottawa owner was David Loeb, who owned the team from the mid 60s to 70s. Of course the CFL was much more popular in the capital back then. The Renegades really need to rename themselves the roughriders again if anyone brings them back to life.

"However, Mr. D'Angelo insists this is not a stunt."

Bullshit. I'm not sure about this, but as a current sponsor of the Argos, shouldn't F-D'A (FDA? energy drinks?) be concerned about alienating not only Argo fans, but Toronto as a whole with some potentially negative, flip-flopping type press... perhaps press generated from this very site? I doubt he is impaired enough to take that kind of risk. Although, factoring in his commercials...

Words to inspire a franchise:

1960s, Vince Lombardi, NFL Hall of Fame Coach

"Individual commitment to a group effort, gentlemen, that's what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work."

2006, Frank D'Angelo, potential Ottawa football saviour

"If we lose money within reason and we have the pouring rights, it is rationalized."

Not sure if I'd prominently display the latter quote on a big banner in the team's locker room but setting the bar should guarantee a'success' every year.

I'm not entirely certain why the OHL is letting Melnyk buy the Ice Dogs. I suppose that the logical explanation is that they needed someone to step in immediately and could wait for Buffalo or Niagara to get their act together.

In any case, a few of D'Angelo's beers are currently ranked amongst the worst in the world at ratebeer.com (http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/steelback-tango/32779/). So if he is making a bid for a franchise based in part on pouring rights, I feel badly for Ottawa fans.
